“The ART of Saying Sorry…”

Artist in Residence Madrid/Mexico 2024/25

PIGSY's "The ART of Saying Sorry..." is a work-in-progress series being created throughout his 2024/25 residencies in Madrid, Spain, and Mexico.

In this body of work, PIGSY confronts the inner monologue, giving form to the metaphorical beasts of self-doubt that often plague the mind. Through his exploration of the automatic response of “Sorry,” PIGSY engages in in-depth research and interviews with psychologists, authors, and experts, examining the lasting effects of apologies that may or may not heal the emotional scars they seek to address.

While “The Art of Saying Sorry …” primarily centers on the turmoil and difficulty inherent in the act of apologizing, it subtly suggests an underlying attempt to repair inner emotional wounds. The recurring presence of the word "SORRY" in each piece serves as both an act of contrition and a quest for redemption—be it for past, present, or future transgressions.

PIGSY’s choice of colours and  materials is deeply symbolic, with works on paper reflecting the fragile nature of the psyche and the vulnerability inherent in facing and mending these emotional scars. The rapidly created works on paper evoke the fleeting and often fragile nature of an apology, while the pieces on canvas represent more meaningful and enduring attempts at reconciliation. Additionally, works on wooden spoons—a light-hearted yet poignant symbol of punishment—illustrate the resistance to fully accepting the consequences imposed by authority, embodying a stubbornness that often accompanies the apology process.

This series will be exhibited in select galleries across Europe and South America in 2025.
