Artwork Details:
Dimensions: 299 cm W x 185 cm H
Materials: Mixed media (Acrylic paint, spray paint, oil bars, acrylic bars, oil paint, spray paint, charcoal, pencils, markers, cardboard and glue) on Canvas
Brief Description:
This painting is Pigsy’s salute to seven of Spain’s great artists, a declaration of respect and a bold statement of arrival on Spanish soil. At its core, two figures of hierarchy stand side by side: “The Man P.P.” (Pablo Picasso) and “New Man Pigsy.” Picasso is placed closest to Pigsy’s central portrait, with imagery from Susana y Los Ancianos piercing through the figure’s mind, a reminder to respect and learn from those who came before.
Around them, Antoni Tàpies, Joan Miró, Luis Buñuel, Salvador Dalí, Miguel Barceló, and Jorge Rando are invoked through references to their works, each echoing within Pigsy’s inner psyche. Painted in Málaga, it is both a gesture of respect and a request for permission to create on their turf. An angel writes “7–1=6,” a seeming miscalculation that playfully nods to Pigsy’s dyslexia. More than arithmetic, it signals his position as an Irish outsider among Spanish masters, not subtracting from their legacy, but adding a new voice beside it.
A vibrant homage, this piece bridges respect and individuality, acknowledging a lineage of genius while carving space for Pigsy’s own voice.
