Brief Description: This work from the Níl Brón Orm (“I Am Not Sorry”) exhibition and the “Automatic Apology” series reflects the fractured dialogue of the inner monologue that emerges through habitual apologies. A central face anchors the canvas, surrounded by collaged paper fragments, each a fragile echo of thought, ranging from sincere remorse to empty reflex, from regret to resistance. Scribbled, redacted words heighten the sense of voices competing for dominance, their delicacy contrasting with the rawness of the marks. Dark shadows and deep indigo hover behind the head, embodying the weight of regret, while layers of red, pink, and magenta float above, capturing the turbulence of self-interrogation. Ghostly figures emerge within these spaces like haunting reminders of over-apology’s scars, while an “X” motif signals both burden and release. Against this intensity, lighter passages of blue, grey, and white provide relief, a glimpse of clarity and acceptance that tempers the chaos. Through its raw layering of acrylic, spray, oil pastels, pencil, collage, and glue, the piece embodies both fragility and resilience, suggesting that even the noisiest inner voices can be acknowledged and reshaped into strength.
