"Praise"
Artwork Details:
Dimensions: 125 cm W x 200 cm H
Materials: Mixed media (Acrylic, Spray Paint, Oil Pastels, Marker, Pencil, Marker and Glue) on Canvas
Brief Description: Praise was created as part of Pigsy’s First Things Last exhibition in Málaga, Spain. The title borrows the phrase “praise be to God” from James Joyce’s Ulysses, anchoring the work in both reverence and questioning.
At its centre, a lone figure stands beneath a crown of thorns, surrounded by chaotic marks, fractured words, and turbulent colour. The painting reflects the struggle of processing grief, when the usual discipline of holding thoughts in order collapses under the weight of emotion. Pigsy draws on his own experience with dyslexia, where language and meaning can fracture, mirroring the disarray of the grieving mind.
Painted flat on the floor in an urgent burst of raw energy, Praise is both intimate and unfiltered — a work of pain, burden, and ultimately, a glimmer of hope.
